9 March Riesling Wine Tasting

Name: Dry Riesling
Variety:  100% Riesling
Region: Washington State
Country: USA
Year: 2011
Price: $28

Winery Review: This wine is collaboration between our winemaker, Chris Pearmund, and his friends at Steppe Cellars in Sunnyside Washington. The result is an austere wine that is clean and bright with a smooth finish. The bouquet might remind you of the minerality of river stone along with the scent of ripening grape, and it offers flavors of ripe white peach and pear. Pair this wine with ceviche or fresh seafood.
My Review: At a winery with exclusively Virginia wines, this was unique in that it had grapes from Washington State.  I actually had the opportunity to taste this back in December, but it was before it was truly ready to be sold. Now it has sat for a few months, and it's made a huge difference.  It had an excellent crisp, clean, apple taste with a minerality and a mild pear taste.  Having fermented in stainless steel, there was really just the riesling grapes that influenced the taste of this one.

I did not have food with this.
